There is the well known type, the pink tailed chaleus, "Chalceus macrolepidotus " which i have two of, the erythrurus is often refered to as the gold tailed hence why i think its a possibility, but discriptions vague, esp as fish shops name them what they want to sell them, Have you checked "Hydrocynus goliath" as you said with teeth, http://www.pbase.com/pschia/image/13855980

could also be what they refer to as "freshwater barracuda" based on your description. Not sure of their scientific name but it should be easy to find.

Yeh. Who knows? I am very interested in trying to acquire a pink tailed chalceus now that I have done some research. Anyone know of a possible vendor? I already checked aquabid.

The gold shark sounds like a mad barb.

One of the chains, I forget which, sells the L. hoevenii barb as "golden shark". When small they're more of a gold color, with a black stripe, and kind of a big mean looking head. They're a lot less skittish than my chalceus, behavior-wise more like a tinfoil barb, and they eat like pigs.
