Reactions: the animal guy
That fish is in fact a Deppi because it used to be mine. I gave a few to a co worker about 6 months ago and last week he indicated he couldn't keep the fish. I asked him to give them back to me but instead he took them to the fish Den. Is that where you got the fish? Possitively certain its a Deppi.

Yes. I got it from Fish Den. They lied to me at the shop and said it was shipped in from Florida as "?" fish.

I knew something was fishy, because the kid who bagged it up for me said that it was a customer who brought it in and that there was actually 2 of them.

Did you keep any?

Thanks for the ID.

Yes I have 2 more. I didn't really want them back but the guy that I gave them to never upgraded to a larger tank and had way too many fish in a 55 so I basically wanted them back to make sure they had a good home. I'm glad you got the fish because when I heard they ended up at the fish den I was very upset. Did they ID the fish as Deppi? The guy I gave them to told me they tried to tell him they were some kind of African Cichlid. Thats kind of why I very rarely go to LFS's these days.

They are really a first for mr and I think they are awesome.

They just put "?" fish and sold it for $40. They thought it was a red texas.

This also explains why the fish seems to look a bit odd; kind of like he was placed in a small tank and hid a lot. His fins seemed to have developed a little curving like it stayed hidden in tight quarters.

I'm glad I got at least one of them. I wish the best for the other.

Anyhow, this guy I have would hid a lot too until I took away all the hide spots. I put a couple of molly's in there last night as dithers and this morning he killed one. So I promptly removed the other. I thought this guy was gonna be passive and shy, but now at least I know what I'm dealing with and I like him.

The more I look at the pics, the more it appears to be a deppi moreso than turquoise for similar reasons as I said about his fish. The striations are too long for turquoise imho.
