I bought this guy a little over a week ago from LFS. He’s made it through the quarantining process and is now in main tank. It was labeled as “silver catfish” and not much else was known about it. After looking through planet catfish I found what I think it is, Rhamdia Quelen. Can anyone confirm this?
Approximately 3”
First two pics are from the store

Thank you Dave. I’m hoping it is at least a Rhamdia sp. Because that would be a new species for me to add to my arsenal. I will update this thread as it progresses.

Can't add anything of value to what has been said.

Indeed looks very close to the R. quelen we had. We enjoyed that fish. It's one of the smartest and "weasel'est" when you have to net it haha... It is so rarely kept and reported on, while being from our continent.

Lol. I can attest to the weaseliness of this fish. Watching the gentleman from the store trying to net my fish from the tank was a spectacle. The fish was only in a 10 gallon tank but the resistance put up avoiding capture was quite entertaining. Both the top/canopy and the two tank decorations had to be removed before finally catching it. Afterwards the tank looked ready for a water change. Roughly two gallons had spilled out and everything else was stirred up.

This species is definitely rare where I’m from, as this is the first one I’ve come across in stores. I look forward to raising this little fella and will update as he grows.

Imagine my having to catch our 1ft specimen in a small section of a 40ftx6ftx3ft rubber pond with a myriad of folds and creases... Even with several inches of water left, it was a marathon and a test on who gets too winded first, man or fish... I've never in my life worked so hard and so long to net a fish...

We did get ours 13 years ago up north, NY or CT, don't remember. Neither have I ever seen them again for sale.
