Update: fed the tank bloodworms tonight and he came out to eat a few so that must be a good sign hes not too stressed to eat. Also saw that apart from a few torn fins, it generally looks fine.

Good sign...just keep an eye on them. Let us know how it goes. Pearsei are great gentle giants.

Thanks Paul. My plan is to check on him after work and see how he is doing and move him then if I have to. I am inclined not to move him, as eventually he needs to be in this tank and would like him to establish himself along the tankmates. No one cares about him except the severum which I was surprised as the severum is the lowest ranking in the tank (maybe thats why). Either way I was very excited to find a pearsi mixed with a bunch of africans as I have never seen one in an LFS before around here.

I had a problem trying a gold sev with my pearsei. Even though the Pearsi was larger the sev always was dominant. I finally got tired of it and kept the pearsei because it just had the better personality.

The severum is probably the least favorite fish in my tank but I have a thing about removing fish already established in the tank. For one thing it could throw off the dominance balance. For another I feel bad cus the severum was there first :) lol. So we will see, I am going to check on the Pearsi at the end of the day. Thanks for the comment

Pearsei and severum are very similar in appearance, so see each other as competitors, and best not kept in the same tank.
Also pearsei are primarily vegetarian in nature eating grasses and leaves from overhanging tress , especially as the get older.
When mine hit 14" they would go through a head of romaine lettuce every 2 days, along with lots of thawed peas.
They will also eat hair algae and duckweed.
Although I no longer have pearsei, I keep their close cousin bocourti, and in summer I raise lots of hair algae and duckweed in my pond, along with dandelions in the yard, to keep up the green food.

Very cool thanks for sharing. I live in the desert so there are little weeds and plants growing around. Would store bought lettuce work? (seems weird as I doubt it has any good nutrition in it) I think ill try and remove him today and reintroduce once bigger and can defend itself.

UPDATE: So I decided to move the little bugger to my divided flowerhorn tank and I made a stupid stupid mistake! The tank he came from was 76 degrees (stays with house temp) and I put him into the flowerhorn tank which I keep at 84 without thinking / acclimating. I hope I didnt make a huge mistake :( feel like an idiot. On another note I took a few more pictures to see if you guys still think its pearsei. Cross you fingers for me.

Does still look pearsei to me, and I buy the romaine lettuce from the store, along with thawed peas. I believe kale might be a better substitute nutritionally though.
