Update: fed the tank bloodworms tonight and he came out to eat a few so that must be a good sign hes not too stressed to eat. Also saw that apart from a few torn fins, it generally looks fine.

Good sign...just keep an eye on them. Let us know how it goes. Pearsei are great gentle giants.

I had a problem trying a gold sev with my pearsei. Even though the Pearsi was larger the sev always was dominant. I finally got tired of it and kept the pearsei because it just had the better personality.

Pearsei and severum are very similar in appearance, so see each other as competitors, and best not kept in the same tank.
Also pearsei are primarily vegetarian in nature eating grasses and leaves from overhanging tress , especially as the get older.
When mine hit 14" they would go through a head of romaine lettuce every 2 days, along with lots of thawed peas.
They will also eat hair algae and duckweed.
Although I no longer have pearsei, I keep their close cousin bocourti, and in summer I raise lots of hair algae and duckweed in my pond, along with dandelions in the yard, to keep up the green food.

Does still look pearsei to me, and I buy the romaine lettuce from the store, along with thawed peas. I believe kale might be a better substitute nutritionally though.
