1 male to several females (at least 3 preferably).
What breed (species)? Same of each.

so basicaly what you all are saying... (so i dont go and spend the money one the wronge fish) is that i have two males right now and should go get 3 to 4 female... just makin sure...

yes if indead they are both Male you will want to get 3-4 more female labs and 3-4 more female auratus to breed.

did you sex your fish yet? Remember it is hard to be sure about sex from a pic on those fish.

The only way to be 100% on sex is to vent them. You cannot be completely sure just by looking at them, unless you happen to watch them spawning and catch who lays the eggs and who fertilizes them.
Venting may also be difficult initially. It takes practice and several fish (of at least 3") to compare with one another.

Okay, I'm sorry, but 'female labs being lighter' and 'your lab is a female, males have darker/more black' is bull****. You cannot visually sex a lab, unless you see it spawn. Period. Yours is just a very washed out lab, of a poor quality (sorry, but I'm just letting you know). As to the sex, no one is going to be able to tell you that from a pic.

And female auratus don't change colour, males do, like n-e cichlids said. They're born yellow, females stay that way, and males change.
