Aye, does look a lot like Crenicichla lucius...where did you get it, that will help a lot in IDing it. Don't really like Saxatilis pikes...they can seriously be a pain to ID...:P. BTW...your snakehead looks a lot more like Channa gaucha...:P.

You have a Crenicichla Regani by the looks of get, get to 4-5".The other one is more difficult, but the one with the pinkish stomach is a Crenicichla Regani. They are also two different strain.

LoL, only regani I see is in your avatar... ;)

I blame you for the Regani avatar. Anyways, woolfie has a female Crenicichla Regani, I have even seen countless pictures like that. I know I am right on the regani, no clue on the 2nd pike.

If you look at the picture, the 'regani' in question has white in the dorsal, which is a trait among females. HOWEVER, in Saxatilis pikes and dwarfs, particularly regani will also have one to three spots in the dorsal. I have yet to see a female regani without any spots in the dorsal. I don't see any spots in the dorsal. Its not a male. Top that off wit the fact that its quite a bit larger than a regani. Its a type of Saxatilis pike, just not sure....but perhaps we are lookin at different pictures, but still pretty sure there are no regani except for in your avatar...;) It looks more like Crenicichla saxatilis or Crenicichla lepodita too me...;) Besides, I thought woolfie only had some Crenicichla proteus...;)

hi peanut i was sold them as proteus told that they are wild so i think i have been misled i will put them in show jars and try and get better pics thanks anyway

I don't mean to be argumentative, but neither of these fish is C. regani. As Softturtle and PP said, they look much like C. lucius. The first fish is obviously a male and the other is definately a female. It's easy to see that they are saxatilians, as opposed to what we usually consider to be dwarfs (like regani). However, the differentiation between the diff. sax-type pikes is tougher. Some of the characteristics that point to lucius are the lack of ocellation around the humeral blotch, the yellow opercula, and minimal suborbital striping, etc. I wouldn't be too concerned about the eye-color; that can change to due to mood.

You can also see the tail spot (whatever you pike people call it, ocelli?) in the first pic. A vertical oriented spot with a yellow or white outline directly infront of the tail fin. Looks very lucius to me.
