So....I found this inside a HOB filter box. I thought the box was empty, obviously not. I may have really jumpstarted my sump setup if this is exactly what I think it is. But any help would be appreciated.
That is a very old filter from the 70's - I had one That's the motor - it is set-up exactly the way it should be, but you are missing an intake tube (One piece tube)
Intake tube? I filled up that box with water and plugged it in, it started pushing water out of the box. I thought it might be some sort of replacement for an overflow.
In my very simple mind, this is how I THINK it works. But it can't quite be like this because there is no way for the water to get INTO the box.
The motor pumps water out of the box, but water is sucked into the box, via an intake tube, like a "modern" filter. It is a hang on back filter, not an overflow.
Ahhh....So it pushes the water back into the tank.
I looked online and heard these things shoot out like 600GPH!!! Holy cow. Ok. So anybody want to help me out with what this intake tube should look like, or if I can make one?
(Going back to the box to see if I missed something.
Here is a pic i found of one... You hang a U piece tube in the tank and start a siphon as the pump pushes the water out the U tube siphons water into the filter....
The intake tube should be clear - and either a massive 2 - 2 1/4 inch diameter (flattened) tube, OR two 1 inch tubes, U shaped curve (Not square like modern ones.)
