Is the waterlevel in the fishtank higher or lower than the level in the filterbox? (I mean when you hang it on the back, your tank-water level should be slightly higher or equal to the maximum filling level of the filter box. If it is lower, then of course the syphon will go the wrong way.
Water will try to level itself, so by topping up the tank to a higher level, eventually the syphon will start in the correct direction).

Good luck, very nice find and amazing good condition.

I was just typing something similar to that... Thanks,,,,

This is how it should be set up.... Once you suck the air out of the U piece it should be the same level as the tank....

Ok, the water level thing worked perfectly. And yes, one U tube is not sufficient to keep up with the demand of this pump.

HOLY COW, THIS PUMP IS INCREDIBLE! I don't think I'm going to run this on my tank at this point, but MAN, this thing is awesome. You can just see how the thing works, and its genius. There are two trays inside the box, one which sits on the bottom with an 'uptube' to the pump. The top tray keeps your media in place, and slides over the inlet of the pump. The water is sucked in the inlet, and forced to flow down through your media before it reaches the bottom and is pulled up by this bohemouth of a pump.

I literally sat and watched this thing run for 10 minutes (with no media in the trays) just saying, I can't believe I just found this.
It is in 9/10 condition and runs like a charm.

It says to oil the motor every few months, and that hasnt happened, so I bet it would be even quieter after 2 minutes of lubing it up.

I will take a video tomorrow after work and post on here so everyone else can enjoy this thing too. (Sorry I'm easily amused)

Ruddybop. Thanks for the diagram, I was trying to run this thing with the box INSIDE the tank, which made things 10x harder, because it wouldnt fit over my trim piece. But once I got it outside like its supposed to be, it nests right there and is perfectly snug.

**Edit, I just saw how you mentioned about 5 times that the box should sit on the outside of the tank, but for some reason, I overlooked that. I was just in such a hurry to get the thing working.

I always used to joke that the motor is a Dodge 225 Slant Six Motor like from Valients, Volare, horizon, etc. That danner had about as much power:ROFL:. With some (not all) you needed to strap them down or the filter would almost fly off the Tank. And you young ones like to b???? about noise from the new HOB's!!!! I posted this before but some needed to have you put your thumb over the intake tube submurge the intake tube into the take drain the air and as quick as you could put it into the filter, if you good at it ....maybe three tries, but you could spend a half hour priming the pump....This is Kewl.......Thanks!!!

Not saying this is something someone would buy to run on their tank today, but what would something like this be worth seeing how they aren't Eben made anymore? Any value? Or just a cool novelty item?

Interesting question....I tell you what talk about quality....those where the AC110 of my youth:). Danner is still in business I thought I read someplace a while back though I have no idea making what. There are people out there that collect vintage aquarium equipment, steel rimmed tanks with slate bottoms a ten gallon weighed fifty pounds emty I swear...and again 55 gallon was considered a Monister Tank:WHOA:. Supreme was very popular and came in different models again some of the later ones had a early version of what we call today a auto prime. Guppies could get sucked into the filter and many times get spit out without a scratch!!!!
.

Sorry had to add one more thought....Pull that motor and look at it next to say a AC110 or Penguin for the way they where built you can't even compare the two!!!!
