I was told when I first buying fish that this was a "Purple Rose Queen". I was told it would turn a bright red when it matures and they had a specimen in hand to confirm it. It was bought at Petland Discounts which is a local chain store here in NYC. I tried looking it up and didnt have any luck. Somehow I believe its a hybrid of some sort but im not sure. Anyhelp would be great. If it is a hybrid please help me move this thread to that section. But i thought i'd start here first.

i dont know but usually "rose queen" is the name given to certain types of flowerhorns

that is not a purple rose queen. it is more likely a juvi veja synispilum or possibly a mix of a syn and something. nope after looking at the pics again its not a veja. head shape isnt right but deff not a rose queen

I think you are right not RQ.But a vieja x something

if it is veja syn then its only part the head isnt rounded enough like most vejas so probably hybrid

Looks like something (Vieja?) x trimac...either way yes it's a flowerhorn, not sure if it's a RQ though. The nose/head seems pointed for any of those though, but hybrid/FH regardless.

I had this fish since november and it was about 2 inches. now its only at 3-3.25. Its been a very slow grower compared to my other fish. I actually had gotten a red devil and when I put him in the body shape was exactly the same. same pointed mouth. everything except the color was identical to a T.

When its dark this fish's color gets dark also and shows vertical lines as in the Festae/mayan. Im not to sure if it has the the Y/4 marking like the festae. I only just learned that feature recently.

The chain store has been in business for at least 20 years since I was a child. Everyone of the stores have this as a type of fish for sale as "Purple Rose Queen". For at least 3 months since I first bought this fish they've had a steady influx of this exact fish come in. Its a staple of their species list.

Other than that It gets competely red and loses its black markings from what I see in older specimen. Thats pretty much all I got on fact for this fish.
