Help ID this fish

That's a black shark. The odd color on the tail is just reflection on the glass. Red tails only get ~6 inches.

Black Shark....nice to see these guys still in aquarium trade....hasn't seen one for many years.

They pop up by me from time to time as well. Really cheap too, $8-$10. They're not really popular due to the fact they get huge and beat the crap out of their tankmates.

im sure its a Red tail black shark. i have one, since this is an old shark it might be losing its bright colour

It's 110% NOT a red tail shark. In fact, 6" is on the generous side for a red tail. They're more like 4"
 
I miss my black shark...but yea, he was mean. I also had an albino black shark which was a little more timid.

The black sharks used to be common in my area few years ago and now they stopped selling them along with red tailed sharks and rainbow sharks. BTW I owned few 5-6" red tailed sharks before.
