Da U.P.
While at Petsmart yesterday I noticed these two in with some danios. I was able to get them for free because they were a contaminant fish not sold at Petsmart. Anyway the reason I'm posting here is because I though I've seen them before as a native of Florida or a southern state (they look familar to me). Currently they reside with my son's two tessellated darters in his tank (please forgive the blue gravel). They have faint verticle bars, and a pronounced underbite. Both like to hang out at the bottom of the tank. They are eating bloodworms. Thanks T.C.

long nose killifish
fundulus similis

native to south florida.
size-6"
habitat- Tide pools, salt marshes, ditches, and lagoons over sand or mud.
Range-S. florida, including the Keys
similar to the striped kilifish (F.majalis)

"although it does not enter freshwater, Longnose Killifish is very tolerant of low oxygen and fluctuating salinity. recent evidence suggeststhat it may be a subspecies of striped kilifish" (national audobon society "field guide to FISHES"

if its in freshwater its prolly F. majalis. or you just proved science wrong...lol

Thanks guys. It's a shame about the water requirements.

Those are NOT Fundulus similis..I'm not 100% sure which Fundulus as the are easier to ID in person than in pics but it is a 100% that F. similis is not the fish. I'm leaning toward F. seminolis myself.

Man throw that book away it is trash and useless.

I also believe them to be seminole killi. Hopefully KSI will chime in here.

looks like a fundulus seminolis... but the jaw shape isn't quite the same as seminolis. It looks like something you can find in florida

I have 2 of these fish, they are in a heavy brackish tank...I have had them about 2 months and they are doing well....They eat everything from flake to feeder guppies...Would really like to know which fundulus these are...

I only have one left, but it's doing fine. It's nearly doubled in size and eats everything as well. Mine has also lost it's stripes and is a more uniform pale now.

Mine have very faint stripes also....They eat very well, I like the way the attack everything they eat...Feeder guppies or seaweed no difference they attack and shake and whirl in the water to get to it..
