That could have been an illegal shipment (missed by Brazilian authorities) or maybe the pikes moved to a different location where collection is legal as a result of the dams setup on the Xingu, leading to re-routing of parts of the Xingu river.

Can you tell me about the bigger Xingu pike in the photo? I am more familiar with the green/pink/green colors of adult Xingu 1 but the one in the photo is clearly different with the fish being solid green. Is the color a sign of the fish’s development into the green/pink/green pattern?

That's a mature adult male. The mature adult females have the red/pink belly.
