Caught these guys the other day along with a ton of tadpoles and some juvi pumpkin seeds. Can anyone help me figure out what they are?
I thought they were sculpin at first, but the head structure seems off... or atleast they arent the sculpin im used to.
Yikes. Flip them over and look at the pelvic fins. If they are split then its a sculpin. If they are fused together like a suction cup then it might be a Round Goby although I thought they were only a problem around the Great lakes region and I dont know what native sculpin look like in your area. The reason it looks a little suspicious is they look like that have a black spot on the back of the dorsal fin. Round Gobies are invasive fish from Europe and at least here in Ohio are to be destroyed on sight and DNR informed of where you caught them. BUT its hard to tell from just one picture and the distribution map doesn't show any sightings past Illinois and Minnesota. So its very unlikely but still possible but very bad news if it is. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/wil...e/fishingnuisancegoby/tabid/5829/Default.aspx
