It's not a brindled madtom, it's a northern madtom. Apparently a rare find, unfortunately.

check these two links:
Northern http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialdatalibrary/pdf_maps/fish_atlas/illustrations/notsti.pdf

Brindled

Your fish matches the northern:
Adipose appears separate from caudal.
Light spots in front of dorsal
Strong midcaudal crescentic bar
Black saddle on adipose fin does not reach edge

Brindled:
adipose not separate from caudal (yours appears separate: better pic would help)
tip of dorsal fin black (notice yours is definitely white)
black saddle on adipose fin reaches edge (yours doesn't)

This link notes two pale spots just in front of the dorsal fin, which I see on yours.

Also note that link says males get swelling behind the eyes, on the nape, lips, and cheeks. So you likely have a male.

I wouldn't suggest taking anymore since information on google indicates they're critically imperiled in your state.
