Better full body side shots could help. Looks different from IDS. Obviously not a black ear. You piqued my interest. The red in the fins may be one ID feature. It needs to settle and de-stress.

I was hoping u'd chip in boss. His mouth is all scraped up due to the travel. I can pull him out later on for better pics:)

Is that why you said he came in banged up? Because I fail to see anything much wrong with the fish. He looks excellent (from here) except his anal fin split.

The red in the fins can be from stress (blood rushes to the fins). I doubt disease / trauma because he looks so good. If the reddishness stays when he is happy and eating real well and calm (not darting or being skittish), then we will see.

Pull him out? Out of water for a pic? I don't think this is a good idea with a 2'+ fish. Plus he will change colors again likely making it harder or moot.

Got it boss! Some of the redness i saw are very visible on its veins that rubs across the fins. and the skin over the mouth is scraped up (possible indication of banging its head on to something?) its very skittish now, i guess ill have to let it recover for a bit then take better pics:)
