  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with duanes it definitely looks like a vieja, possibly hybridized.
Side note, I was in puerto rico a couple weeks back and saw tons of large (over 12") tilapia and a few various other cichlids living feral in a drainage ditch. Saw a couple of oscars in there with them as well. I'm guessing in the cities there are lots of invasives released as pets.

To me it look like vieja melanura but was wating for guys to had the final say. We do have fereal pet fishes living in our lakes and rivers some of them are plecos, oscars, jaguars, convicts, jewels, platys, swordfish, midevils, and who knows what else. Il try to go fishing this weekend and take more pics

were I cought this fish there is another kind of fish with the same body type but insane colration deep yellow / red so I tought its got to be a color morph, but I was watching the behavior and notice that they swim together but never seen a breednig pair of mix colors. I think is another vieja .1000007486.jpg I know the picture below is not great for comparing because is a mango fruit but the yellow / red color is similar.

A Bifa is usually found with a black line with a black patch on their sides. The newest fish you just posted is 100% a Bifasciatus. Bifa can often be the exact colors of that fruit you posted. Especially when mature or getting ready to spawn.
