Sorry if some comments came off a bit rude. You see, there are a lot of people that post on here with fish that they really should never have bought, and honestly shouldn't ever be sold in the aquarium trade. The name of the game here is to only buy fish that you can afford to keep comfortably. The whole, "the fish will only grow as big as its tank will let it" is not true at all, no matter what anyone has told you. It is true that the fish will stop growing, but that is where it becomes stunted and is extremely unhealthy for the fish. When a fish is stunted, its body stops growing but its organs continue to grow until it becomes too much for the fish to handle and it dies. The fish's eyes are included in this and can be used as a indicator as to whether a fish is stunted or not. This is my first post on this message board, why are you being such an a hole? Im sure that in the fish world i am not the first person to have a gar. What did i do to you?
This is really besides the point though. Alligator gar are included in the fish that should really never be sold in this hobby. A fish that has the potential to reach 10' can only be kept by a handful of keepers across the US properly.
Do you already have the gar or is it still at the pet store?
