Hello, first off I'd like to mention that I'm a new poster on this forum but a long time browser.

This morning my brother-in-law and I went trolling on Lake Sammamish, WA. I live on this lake and fish it year round. About 2 hours in my brother's rod gets slammed, while reeling it in this gorgeous fish jumped out of the water once, then again, and again. After abit of excitement I net and landed the fish. It measured about 22", though we couldn't quite identify it, first off the only trout we were allowed to keep over 20" are cutthroat, and this did not have any sign of the red marks under the gills, which give them their distinctive name. So, the possibility of keeping it was ruled out, unfortunately it was a deep swallowed hook job and the fish wasn't doing to well afterwards, I left the hook because of the hooked location. After release it was surfacing, swimming a little down, then resurfacing. I had little hope that it would survive. But there was no way it would have been legal to keep, my only hope is that if it did perish a eagle or another animal could benefit from it.

Later on, we hit the shallows for some panfish, did very well. We caught many perch, along with a couple pumkinseed and the first crappy of the year.

So here is my question, what is this? we were either thinking a very silver rainbow, steelhead, or possibly a very very early silver. The picture is unfortunately a poor cellphone pic, I can tell you that it did have a white mouth and adipose fin was intact.

Very large rainbow..... A steel head is an ocean going rainbow. so unless the lake you caught him in leads to the ocean then its a Rainbow.

would be a pretty big rainbow

cant really tell from pics, it looks like a steel head to me though

Looks like a RBT to me. Nice catch!
