I found it in a runoff puddle with flowing water that has been persistent near my driveway (will dry up soon once hot). Put the fish in a tank and now need to determine food and car?
Knowing what state you lived in would be helpful for identifying that species of fish properly.
From what I can tell it doesn't look like a bluegill, due to it missing the black dot behind the gill cover.
I could be wrong but it looks, to me, like a Bantam Sunfish. Here's a picture.↓ Bantam Sunfish Hopefully that link worked.
Better keying I should say would be the fact that the dot on the dorsal fin narrows it down to green, bantam, and either of the three bluegill, lack of orange iridescence on the fins and color on the "ear" eliminates green, pointy tail/pectoral fins + tall dorsal spines + long peduncle + pointy face eliminates bantam, and then again dotted barring eliminates coppernose and eastern bluegill. That narrows it down the scientific way if you don't believe the fact that I have caught probably 1000 of them
