My House!
Firstly, to the Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it to its correct location. :)

Anyways, I was just doing a little reading on silver dollars and came across this:
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/metynnis-argenteus
And this:
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/metynnis-hypsauchen
And I'm wondering now which of the two I have. Mainly because of the new one we're getting this weekend, I'm worried they may neglect him/her if it's of a different kind. It looks the same as the one we've got but those two apparently look the same as well. When I can get some decent pics of them (the hubby's just sending them to me now) can anyone tell me which of the two I have?

Edit: Got pics:

Them (her at front): IMG_20160304_151056.jpg

Post Script: I don't have two by design. I started with more and this is the end result, and at $15-20 for a 4" dollar, I can't exactly run out and buy a whole school of them. :)

Could you get better, higher resolution pictures of the fins of the fish? They are most likely Metynnis argenteus. Metynnis argenteus is more common than Metynnis hypsauchen. Even if the other one is the different kind, they are almost identical. They just have a slight fin variation. They will be fine together.

I'm limited to phone cameras atm, but I can try getting some close ups of their fins. It may take some time though, they're not easy to photograph. :)

I had to wait until today to try, yesterday was gloomy and I didn't have enough light. Today is bright and sunny so I'll try right now. :)

M hypsauchen will have a black spot behind the gill plate just above the eye line. It's not always that noticeable. If they never show it , then they are most likely M argenteus. Other than that care is the same.

Mine get two black spots behind their gills when spawning if that's what you mean? :)

CarpCharacin CarpCharacin this is the best photo I could get. It's of Two Bucks (my male), I'm a little strung for time atm as we're about to go pick up the new guy I can try for a better one once we get home and get the new guy in quarantine..
