The problem with the info in the links is that I've never seen the two side by side, so I didn't have anything to go off. The link implied that the spots would be there permanently, at least, that's how I read it. And mine only show their spots when breeding so I was (and still kind of am) a little confused. As mentioned if they will school together regardless then it doesn't really matter. I was just hoping to learn something new about my oldest fish.Kittiee the links you posted in the op give you the same info I gave you. Imo your fish are M hypsauchen given the black spot.
I have seen argenteus with spots. Also argenteus have a more curved forward head. M hypsauchen have a more flat head.Argenteus never show any spots as adults.
If they do not have shoulder spots all the time, than they are metynnis argenteus, like i originally said. They only seem to show their spots when spawning. They get two spots, one above the other right behind their gills. The top spot goes black and the bottom one stays a dark silver/grey. I may have some old pics where there spots are showing. I'll have a look and see if I can find one. If not, I'll post back next time they're breeding with spotty pics.![]()
No, they don't have them all the time. As I said, only when they're breeding. If they do not have shoulder spots all the time, than they are metynnis argenteus, like i originally said.
