I just went to my LFS where a kid works that I gave a fish to. I gave him my 9" mad barb (Aka red cigar shark, or even golden shark). He has had the fish for about a week or so, and today he says that my fish gave his entire tank anchor worm!! I did buy a fish in the past that had one anchor worm on his top fin, I pulled it out, treated it and the fish has been great since, and for as long as I have had that fish, as well as my tank I have never seen another anchorworm. Is it possible that fish can carry the worm for months without it showing?? Pls help!!! If my tank has anchor worm, I want it GONE. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you.

Ps: the fish he adopted from me is not the one who had the single anchor worm.

You should tell him how important it is to quarantine fish before putting into your main tank

LOL, yes I should have mentioned that. But I am not even sure the anchor worms came from me... I just want to know if I should treat fish with no signs of a parasite, I have never seen the anchor worm in my tank after treating and QUARANTINING the fish before adding him to the rest. But this kid really seems to think it was MY fish... I don't really know where to go from here... should I just leave it be and IF I see the anchor worm THEN do something?

without quarantining a fish you run this very risk.

QQ....

diseases and parasites come with the hobby, if he doesn't like it, he needs to sell his tank.

I bought some loaches that ended up lacing my tank with ich, but i didnt run to the lfs and pitch a fit.

well how long has that fish that had anchor worm been in your tank that has no signs of anchor worm? Cause I would think that if its has been a while (several months) then its def not your fault.

The fish has been anchor worm free for many months now. I may just treat the tank as a precautionary safety. I checked all the fish again today, and still no sign of anchor worm... hmmmm.... I will do more reading. Google gives many different answers. LOL.
