I don't think the lights are what's your main cause. Algae grows when there is nutrients in the water for it ie phosphate and nitrates. I run a dual t5 with a 54w 6700k bulb and a 540 actinic 54w bulb on my flowerhorn tank. It also gets a decent amount of natural morning sunlight. My light schedule is 10 am to 9 pm (11 hrs) the t5s are running. From 9 pm to 1 am (4 hrs) I have 2 11 inch blue led light bars used for moonlight effect. Actinic bulbs are known to grown algae in freshwater. I have absolutely no algae growth at all. I do 2 25% wc weekly to keep my nitrates minimal. I know my water is high is phosphate so after wc I will run a hob with strictly phosphate removing media for a day or two.i have 2 canister filters on it but it's easier to use the hob instead of messing with the canisters. In short what I'm saying is yes cutting you lights cycle or no blue led might help. But your sacrificing your viewing experience. There is other ways to manage algae without sacrificing. Algae needs light and nutrients to grow. Take its light, you sacrifice. Take its nutrients, you lose nothing except the algae.
