I say give it a shot! I love my fish but when they die i get a new one. The first time guppies and gold fish were kept were they kept in 5000 gallon ponds nope didn't think so. Some times you guys kill me with what you say? Some of your fish come from the amazon but you or someone eles has decided somewhere along the way that some tank what ever the size is good enough for them but come on we cant reproduce the amazon river can we?
We do the best we can to keep our fish what we precive as happy. So i say give it a shot just filtrate filtrate as much as you can. You can never over filtrate only over stimulate, keep the current down as to not stress your fish but clean it as much as you can and do lots of water changes. Good luck

Lets just say the water is perfect... WHO CARES! The fish wont be able to turn around in that tank if it grows another inch or two. A 55 gallon is only 12 inches wide. Its already as long as the tank is wide. :screwy:

Thanks i'm glad i have some support
but i am starting construction on a 6 foot by 6 foot pond that will be around 6 foot deep
any ideas if i could keep all 3 in the pond or will it be too small?
as for eating them i detest the tought i won't even feed live mice to my moms snake i hate meat, fish, dairy, and all animal products
i'm a vegan
so i will probly just let all but the smallest one(which i found out is only 7 inches) go and get him a 150 gallon for the time being.

All three fish would be fine in a 6X6X6 pond. Are you sure they are only 7 inches? If one is 7 inches it may have a few months left in a 55 gallon aquarium.

the smallest is 7 inches and the largest in 8 and a half i was just figuring yesterday on the size i just measued them a few minutes ago

Well we are looking at a different situation if the biggest is 8 inches.. They would be okay in there until you can house them in something bigger as long as water quality is good.

I would get them transfered into something they can live in for life. If kept well fed and in good water quality these fish will get over 20 inches so just remember that when choosing a permanent home...

well when they start eating and begging and acting like a LMB should in an aquarium then youll be fine but sure as **** be ready for at least two dead ones. It just wont work.... and the fact that they lived on a stringer out of water for a 45 min drive is ridiculous. If u think how a stringer works thats a rope going through their gill rakes and fish dont survive with gill trauma.

I just lost my LMB of 2 years who I grew from a baby to almost a foot. RANDOMLY went belly up. probably a bad feeder. But i Have a lot of respect for these fish, probably more than any other fish. And i dont think ur doing the right thing. If your serious about keeping them please hurry and act fast with another tank cause they are toally worth it.

the 6x6x6 will probly take 2 weeks 2 complete

i would save all 3 for only 2 weeks...... just do alot of water changes.. that pond would hold them fine and id throw some catfish in there too.. make sure u get pictures!

i agree. they should be fine for 2 weeks, plus it'll give you time to check out the fish and see if they might have any sickness, so you can treat it before you spread it to the pond.
