Help! mayby someone seen this..

It looks to me like your fish is in the late stages of Septicemia. (possibly some kind of Viral hemorrhagic septicemia?)
This is a very sad sight to see, and unfortunately it is most likely going to die.

Sorry, but I have to agree. I have seen this with an endli that I had shipped from CA. Was advised to place it in a hospital tank (I already had an established one.), up temp, add salt, and perform water changes. All to no avail. The disease advanced very quickly, but it took several days before the endli perished.

Still I hope the best for your poly.

I base my opinion on having experienced septicimia in a few of the 100s of Polypteridae that I have kept.

Looks just like the OP's problem with the bloodied area of the ganoine surface.

Will it live? Maybe. (not too likely IMO, but possible)
Is it suffering right now? Yes.

And just like you said, meds and clean water might help, but most likely not!

Sorry to hear about yr Endli. It is a horrid way to go!

This stuff is painfully scary :(.... Yep I would like to know the cause of this...

Causes vary, but most common being infection through open wounds, eating bacteria ridden food, even bad water toxins can cause it.
It isn't so bad if caught early, anti-bio can help at early stages, but TBH, the OP's fish looks quite far gone.

It isn't such a common disease, but if you get it, and you have other fish they almost certainly have it too.
Tank, filter and utensils need to be thoroughly disinfected too.

Good stuff to know tokyogasmask. I haven't researched the disease thoroughly. In my case I tend to think that it was something wrong with the poly I had shipped or perhaps it was weakened during shipment even though it was next day. I had other polys in the same shipment that were fine and came through quarantine beautifully. It really is sad to see them get this.

HI ALL
I'd like to thank you for all your advise and support... and sorry for no update.

here is the result:
after your info all I've done is kept him in a main tank and carried on weekly water changes (30%),
didn't add anything(medicine) into a tank, kind of hoping it'll eventually go and it has - so reliefed! :woot::woot::woot:. but ...it may not be the end of it... here is current look of him :

unfortunately the same thing happened to my other 10 inch birchir about two months ago and gone the same way and came back but this time worse. In addition to it his body started to look really rough and floated only by the surface- lost him yesterday... really sad.
thank you

Hi. Like I said, it is VERY contagious. And will linger in a non sterilized tank (including all rocks, wood , substrate and filters etc.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
At least the Sen is looking a bit better!
