Help me!!! | Ammonia looks ok | Nitrate and Nitrite Uncontrollable

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We use Purigen in my daughters Axolotl tank and recharge it every few weeks. It slowly turns brown as it is saturated with nitrogen compounds from the tank water... so I assume it must be doing something. BUT we have never taken an analytical approach to try to determine how effective it actually is. I.e. take water measurements while the Purigen is out for a day recharging then see if the readings fall noticeably after putting it back into the filter.

from my understanding of purigen, it will slow down nitrate production by removing organic compounds that turn into ammonia and not remove nitrates
