look into a bead filter, with backflush...what is the Ph out of your tap?

My tap water is poison; I use RO water, which is 7.0.

cool ...i have to look into the same..my tap is 8.0...
There are some RO units that claim zero waste water...:headbang2:headbang2

I've never looked into that before. I don't mind a little waste water, honestly. I do want to find a way to automatically change my water out from the 32 gallon holding bin to the tank, and from the tank to the drain.

I've seen some DIY threads here, but they were way too complicated for what I want to do. Seen any of those around?

I'm shooting for 2 drops per second and all you need is an overflow to waste water or collection barrel...

It is my understanding that it takes 4 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of RO water... that's just unacceptable to me...water here is $1.11 a cubic foot...

Do your research before you buy a pump. Otherwise you'll be throwing money out the window. Spring for a nice expensive EFFICIENT one in the beginning and it will pay for itself the first year.

Yes, this is correct...I added a 1350gph pump that added about 10 bux a month to the bill...:(:irked:

I almost made the same mistake....... Looked at a cheap pump at Menards then backed out.... After doing a little research I would be able to just about run 2 of the pumps I have now for the same electricity, and a single one is MORE GPH.

Hard to beat Pondmaster Hydrives. 4800GPH @ 280 watts.

Yeah it is...the only thing I found is a submersible that goes 3000GPH at 235watts 15ft max head...perfect for a wet/dry with 1.50" return

I'm not new to fish keeping, but I feel in a bit deep over my head in this DIY stuff. That all sounded like greek to me. :nilly:

I know what the numbers mean, but I was a bit confused by how they fit into the big picture.

Is 3000g/hr at 235W efficient? 15ft max head is wonderful, but I only need a few feet. What is a 1.50" return? Is that the radius of the PVC pipe leading back to the tank? I will probably build a sump with this tanquarium, but I've never had a tank big enough to need one before, so bear with me. :D
