so cal
I'm thinking of adding a bichir to my tank. The tank is still not done cycling but in the next week or two Ill start adding fish. First thing to go in is a jardini arowana. Sometime in the future ill add a pleco. Other than those 2 i really have no ideas of what to add. Perhaps a bichir? Which bichir would be right for me?

The tank is 175g with a big (4' long 8" thick) piece of driftwood that has lots of nooks and crannies and another smaller piece of driftwood.

You do know jars have a reputation as being very territorial as they age and can be quite intolerant of tankmates. As for bichirs you're looking at P.e.congicus or P.e.endlicheri-Anne

Yeah i know jars are aggressive when they are older. I'm crossing my fingers that i get lucky with one of the slightly less aggressive ones, but i know I'm sorta rolling the dice. will bichirs mostly hide in my driftwood? and will that make a difference?

I'm also thinking that if i get smaller fish to stock the tank that ill have less problems. We will see how that works for me though.

thanks

I'd recommend a large species of bichir as well,

Endi
Congi
Lap
Ornate

Good Luck and be sure to post pics in the media lounge when everything is in place

I agree but would also add ansorgi to that list.

ornate delhezi or senegalus would be my three choices

Not all jars are killers. I have 22" jar with my bichirs that range from 7"-21".

Jars will usually attack other mid or upper dwelling fish and will just ignore bottom dwelling fish especially if it does not shine or fights back. People just got feed to much info about the jars reputation of being aggressive. Asain aros have the same aggressive level as the jar. Eeven a silver or black can become nasty too. Each individual aros have their own aggression level. All you need is to watch out for any sign of aggression.

I would say get any bichirs that you like to keep.

:iagree: They can somewhat keep up size wise with the jar.
