Help me choose additional canister filter - Eheim? Magnum 350?

On another forum, someone suggested that the Eheim Pro 3 series (2075) with micron filter pads and Purigen offers similar, if not superior, clarity as the Magnum. Is there any truth to this? If so, then I can get rid of the AC HOB's as well.

The polishing pad may offer the same level of mechanical filtration as the Magnum. I'm not sure but I dont think these micron filter pads are reuseable like the magnums micron carteridge. This will be a $ drain over time, where as if you use the mag, you just buy 2 carteriges and use one while you clean the other. The Eheim Pro3 is an awsome all around filter, and indeed you may not need the polishing pad unless you really want to make it sparkle for whatever reason. Downside is that the Pro3 is a pretty spendy filter, and you have to get all the media for it as well. If you want one filter that will do everything, and allow you to dump the HOB's then yea I would say nab the pro 3, hook it up, run it for a couple weeks and then dump your HOB's. If you are looking for a cheaper solution to pick up what your HOB's are leaving behind, magnum ftw.

What kind of media do you have in the ACs?

You have more than enough filtration as it is. If you have tiny particles floating in your tank (probably due to overfeeding or not enough WC) you can simply add some poly-fill to your current filters.
A giant roll of poly-fill/ quilt batting will run you $5-8 and will filter out the tiny particles. Cut off a piece, put it in your filter, and change it out when you do your weekly WC. Problem solved.

Or you can spend hundreds of dollars on filters you don't need.

LD50 or anyone else, The Eheim Pro3 2075 is pretty reasonable and comes with pads and prostrat- $205 at www.kensfish.com
Kens seems to be the cheapest Ive found. Works well for me since he lives about 10 minutes from me and I can stop by his house.
