Help me choose my second car - wagon / hatchback

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2004 BMW 325xi has 160,000 on it and going strong. I drive a lot. Pick up a certified used wagon with 100,000 mile coverage for about 26,000 with 40K miles on it. Leagues better than anything on your list and I get 30mpg highway at 80 MPH

PS
How about the Passat Wagon ? How are those?
I'm looking to stick at $15 - 22K give or take - but it is becoming obvious that many of the "NEW" cars are pretty shibby, so I'm probably looking at late 00 cars which would obviously give me more wiggle room price wise.

Das Auto.

Go with a Honda of some form or another. You'll get great gas mileage, great quality and durability (good for a few hundred thousand miles), and parts are easy to come by since most U.S. Hondas are made here in the United States (mine was made in Ohio). For example, I drive a 2005 Honda Accord (4 cylinder) and get about 30 mpg. It already has about 150,000 miles on it, and I anticipate that it will last at least that many more. My mom drives a 2010 Honda Accord and gets slightly better gas mileage than my car does. There currently is an Accord has a hatchback/crossover version, too, so that could fit the bill for you.

Some of the other import cars are great, too, but they often eat your wallet when you go to replace parts that need to be routinely replaced, not to mention the cost of replacing other parts if need be.

The rule of thumb with vw is their German made ones are great the Mexican built ones are garbage.

x2.

Always watch to see where you future car is actually made. Many companies are based in one country and have their vehicles manufactured in another country; this can sometimes lead to worse quality than what would be expected from said company. For example, I have a friend who's all, "My car's a Chevy and is an American car. Only buy American!" Said car has a sticker that says that it was made and assembled in Mexico; this thing's a rust bucket now with plenty of problems...

Honda CRX HF 84-91.

When they came out they were advertised to get 50 MPG.

I would recommend a Honda. Solely based on my 1998 accord, 222,000 miles, other then regular maintenance I've only replaced a starter. She still gets 30-35 MPG
