help me construct a 12ft long stand for (4) 180 gal tanks stacked

I like that idea kodia...so 2x6's all around for sure. I was thinking of doing the same thing with the lighting and whatnot; filters maybe a problem as I'm not 100% sure at this time if I will have the height needed for (2) 180's, and FX5's underneath (with some room to play that will be needed of course in between) I think my basement ceiling is 8ft, will have to look into that...

It should be just like any other stand build except for two things. One is a non issue, the other will be the tough point to address.

1. It's like two stands that share one side of the vertical supports.
2. On the upper tanks, you will have no additional support for the center of the tanks. They will be suspended across the 6' span. I've seen this done without issue, but they were done with steel stands, not wood.

Hey Pharaoh, was this stand custom made, or was it one of the heavy duty rack stands from lowes?

thanks!

I would build 2 separate stands for the 180's and then set them up and have a the Mechanical(plumbing filters and electrical) area in the center of the 2 stands and build some sort of shelf system connecting the 2 with 2X4's with screws and shelving(can take apart to move if ever needed) and add some sort of door for cover.

You could even double up the 2x6 in the front like a Header and Glue them together suing a Roller to spread the glue out evenly before hand...

Why not plumb them all up to the same Sump? Or two of them under a counter perpendicular to the setup? YOU could make trhem out of the Rubbermade tubs or cans with some Nice High Flow Pumps... Many have done this on the cheap!
