Looking at replacing the 'just not cuttin' it' Penguin 200 HOB in the living room. I have used Cascade filters in the past, cheap and quiet, but I think I would need a 1200 for this tank to provide the cleaning intervals infrequent - ie: every 3 months. This will not fit in my stand, due to the clamps making it too wide.

This sounds like an Eheim Classic, right? Which size for a moderately stocked 35G tank?

Also, this canister MUST fit through an 8" opening, cause that's the size of the door.

Thanks!

What's the width of this monster? I'm sure it is wide than my door. :( I wish I could...

oh shoot, didnt see that it needs to fit through a small door. but yeah an eheim classic should be good for you.

I just hear about the stories of people cleaning these Eheim's and finding solids, fine grain sand like dust, left over on the bottom of 'completely' biodegraded matter after letting the filters just run for months...

I don't think a Cascade would flow that long, especially if I were to use the floss pad.

I just don't know much about the Eheim's other than the canned description-I want real life info!

A classic 2215 would be perfect. I am not sure of the dimensions might have to find them online, but Eheim are the best for being quiet.

I was going to suggest a Rena Xp1 or Xp2 but I don't know how tall your opening is, and I am not sure exactly how wide the xp series are. They are somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-9". I have an XP3 and an XP2, while it is no FX5 it gets the job done. Both of those are on a 125Gal and it keeps it spotless. Check them out. Best part is the ease of maintenance, plus a decent flow rate for a decent price.

eheim best "heart" you can by for you tank
