Fluval 405

340GPH
3.3 gallon cap.

28.6 watts (!)
n/a head height
5/8" hoses

All are rated for up to 100 gallons, all will fit, but the Eheim does so for alot less power and does so in a smaller package. A plus is that I know I can get away with long maintenance intervals.

Guess I answered my own question, but I needed to get the info out there to see what else everyone was using...

The Eheim just has a lot less flow rate than all the others, if flow rate is something you aren't worried about then I'd go for Eheim as well. You don't beat 15watts

This is a tall tank that IMO doesn't need a bunch of flow. But it does have a fat healthy fancy goldfish in it that I believe to be the root of my bio-load. lol I need the extra capacity of a canister. Also at 164gph (with media I believe) is going to be roughly 5x turnover-plenty.

Now to find a good deal on a 2215...

Fluval 205 is 7.5 inches at the widest point where the clips are, but it sounds like you might be looking for more filtration than that, but IMO it's good for up to 40g, but maybe not with goldfish.

The Fluval 405 is more inline with my plans/bioload, and 'should' fit into the stand, but mostly due to the design, I think the maint. intervals would be more often to keep up the rated flow when compared to the 2215. Also 7 watts more for the same rated filtration...

I would bump up to the 2217 for a fat goldfish. They are messy and I think you will be glad if you do go with a 2217

The 2217 is too big to fit through my stand door- it was definitely considered. The pump head is 1.5" too wide.
