Help me decide what is right and what is best..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
but in the wild most snappers just lie on the bottom of the murky water anyway and you could turn the pond into a full bog I would say keep it liz... you are doing it right by keeping it in clean water and feeding it no sence after this long of time in releasing it

The right thing is to build another pond, get him a mate, add a few friends, and start charging admission to the new zoo. Gate fees would go a long way toward upkeep of everyone, and future expansions.:grinno:

aye but the fish has been captive raised so it may be healthy and get a clear bill of health but could die from a parasite or type of bacteria that it never incountered before etc.......

That would be my worry..

Ihe has a nice home and good care but he has nothing to see but the 4 walls of glass, as of now.. and later it will be walls of plastic.. a whole lot bigger .. but still not like the world of nature.. anyway he is going to be with me because i do love the guy in a sentimental way..

Do some terraforming or set up a faux naturalistic setup for your vivarium. It is not hard to do, there are a lot of people do it for dart frogs, monitors and bearded dragons.

so unless i could be at least sure that he had a good chance out there i can't do it.. maybe a zoo will take him when he gets really big..

Most zoos, if not all, have a policy of not adopting animals. The only zoos that will take him are private petting zoos that you find on ranches.

I am seriously going to try and set up something really nice for him.. right now he is in a big tank with gravel and stones and a landing so he can get out the water..over head light and heater.. but when i do the rubbermaid tub he will be out of the fish room in the basement with heat lamp over head {as sunshine} and filter and heater etc.. we already kind of had a plan for him since we really did not plan on giving him up.. i just wanted to make sure before i did all this that we were doing the right thing..

I would think your probably right.. :(

Could you imagine a snappers in petting zoos? I could just see it...

"Here hunny pet this nice dinosaur like turtle..." *SNAP off goes child's hand*

I'd pay to see that.

well i do not think all animals in petting zoo are petted.. but they would have it displayed behind glass etc.. but anyhow good point!!! :D This would be adult petting zoo only...anyone over 18 at your own risk..
