OK. Rallyb1tch and myself came to the conclusion that our 300 looked like a steaming pile of peanut decorated excrement.

We have pulled everything out with the exception of water and fish (there is still a little sand left)

How would you decorate it? The fish are as follows:
1 24" silver aro
1 17" chinese perch
1 14" albino channel cat
1 14" clown knife
1 17" clown knife
1 13" jag
1 11" oscar
1 8" common pleco

Here is the tank. The fish have changed a little but the decor was like that.

HELP ME MAKE IT LOOK GOOD!!! :headbang2
Thanks everyone:)

that is a nice tank! you can't have a lot of decors inside that tank since your fishes are all huge. just get some slabs of rock and place it on the side and just get a centerpiece for your tank. less decor will be better and would'nt scratch your fishes.

pick a theme.....coluseum....natural....bright colors....something you and the wife like.

i recommend large river stone...everyone thinks it weighs a ton but just one layer with a few here and there on top....easy to clean (doesnt clog) and awesome to look at. no to mention will give your jag something to pick up and work out with!

and i also think one large nicely shaped piece of Drift Wood looks amazing. if it has long branches on it if looks like it takes up space but really doesnt. the fish love to swim around it and chill under the branches.

I would use a nicer piece of driftwood for the center piece....Nothing too big, and I would add some "realistic" plastic plants....Reayy high ones on either side of the tank. You definatly need to add some green to it....I love the fake plants, the last, need no maintenance, and look good....All of my tanks have them in it. I would also get some bigger round and flat stones for decoration too.....a couple on each side mabey. to balance it out....OR you could put them in the middle, surround the driftwood a little bit.

Jen ;)

I would leave the middle pretty open and add some cover to the sides. Lets say some roots with fake plants. One other thing I have found is that trying to hard to make your tank look good can make any tank look like its... well a fish tank. I really don't think there is an art to decorating tanks (some may say there is). Nature has a way of being random that can't be duplicated but you can get close. I just tend to pick areas to be clearings and other for decor and cover. Other than that I usually just stick to a few guidelines.

-short stuff in the front and tall stuff in back (or in the middle for your tank as its a divider)

-plants look better in groups of the same kind rather than placing one of each in certain spots (polkadotting).

-create a natural clearing for fish to come out in and cover for them to retreat.

Well, I don't know if this will help you as you have some MONSTERS in there and I have never decorated a a tank for monsters. Anyways, good luck with your decorating and have fun.

nice center peice... and get those long plants and let them float around

pile rocks on the left coming down like a river bank, then a nice pice of driftwood in the centre of the remaining open floor space for the fish to swim around, giving your tank a more 3D feel and some nice vallis in amongst the rocks. wedge the plants in between the rocks so they cant be uprooted. and some nice plants like anubias nana on and around the wood.
