Help me design a DIY wet/dry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a 125gal I recommend the following:

sump: 40gal
pump: 500-900GPH
overflow diameter: 1.5"

oh and BTW:

Then I'll use the 40 gal I picked up last night and reserve the 10 for some Red Terror fry that my buddy wants me to grow out for him. They just hatched last week.

And I read somewhere in all my research that the difference between 1.5 and 1.25 in flow was negligible and lost prime easier.

my math says that

1.25" has a surface area of 3.9"^2
1.50" has a surface area of 4.7"^2

so if that translates to flow rates (which it should)
you're looking at a 20% increase in capacity.
However I believe the 1.50" can handle
well over 1000GPH so it's just overkill.

1.25" should be adequate.

meh been out of school too long.
if you're wondering, r^2 /= d

1.25" has a surface area of 1.22"^2
1.50" has a surface area of 1.76"^2

so if that translates to flow rates (which it should)
you're looking at a 45% increase in capacity
