WESTERN HOGNOSE snake definatley the way to go jp lol i just love hoggies

All that you've mentioned have very simple needs, and any would make a good starter. Is there any one you are leaning towards?

I wouldnt go with a hognose because they can play dead and hiss. Not very attractive in that scence althow, beautifull snakes for those who like them. ( I am one of those people)

Nanoreefer, the rat snake can get up too 6 feet long, being the largest of the bunch, it would be a great beginner snake if you are ready for something that large.

Just like the rat snake, the corn snake is pretty similar but has a bunch of different colours to choose from but stay a tad bit smaller.

The childrens python is very small and I wopuldn't recommend it. Why? their just so small that I personaly can't get attached to them. I would rather you look into a Royal Python, they get a tad bigger and don't mind being handeld if you buy a captive bred specimen.

All eat rats. Altho you could easily feed the childrens python adult mice for its life.

I have to be honest one of the best pet snakes is the ball python.

ofcourse I have some for sale but if your a new owner and want to have a cool pet I can sell you a 1 yr old cb ball python for 25 dollars and you pay the shipping.

I'm trying for the black rat snake.Corns are a little too skittish, and childrens pythons are too small,as said above. So how big of a enviroment for these guys?I hear they like to climb.

Black rat snakes love to climb. If your the aquarium type of guy, like me, I would house an adult in someting like a 90gallon tank. Nice and tall to put some branches in their. Many people will disagree on the minimum tank size for this snake, but 90G is what I recommend.

You can also build your own cage for a fraction of the price.(When I build cages, they turn out to be more then an aquarium of equivalent size:screwy:) That also works and you can even go bigger if you wish.

You can use cypress., sold in big bags at your local nursery as bedding. Aspen and newspaper is also a common bedding.

:iagree:
IMO ball pythons are the best, for looks, care, etc...

rat snake is a good choice in my opinion. they have been known to have a little attitude which is good, it shows character. really the only thing you should not use for the snake are tubs or totes they don't make them big enough. you really need to consider something with at least 3 feet of vertical height for the climbing.
