At small sizes RTM’s are in my opinion the most agressive of the Parachromis. Dovii eventually get more agressive as they grow larger. Becoming arguably the most agressive Cichlid there is. Mostly because of their size, there isn’t anything in the cichlid world that can stand up to a 30inch Dovii.

A pair of Dovii require a much larger tanks I suggest a 8x4x3 or larger.

As long as the 160 is 6ft long yes, I think you have a good chance of keeping a pair of RTM. Could be a lovely tank, I love RTM’s.
Again the best way to get a pair is to get 5 or 6 little ones and let it pair naturally and rehome the rest.
Ok but do i get the other rtm from the same place i got this one? Or should i look for another set of babies ?

That depends, do you want to sell the fry or give them away? Or are you simply wanting a pair for the fun of seeing them be parents.

If you want to sell or give the fry away, then the best way is to get the others from some where else. That way the blood line doesn’t get thinned further. Often times breeders that breed in large vats get inbreeding. It’s not too too bad for one or two generations. But if it keeps going down the line it can weaken the bloodline.

I dont plan to sell , im just looking to keep for personal

Very good posts Covetous. Sound advice

Thank you

And if you don’t plan on selling or putting them back into the market, then it’s just fine to get them from the same place. I think most of us love watching breeding pairs

One more question does this guy look pure or some sort of hybrid it self?

In that picture he does indeed look like an RTM.

Hybrids are hard, some look just like one parent or the other. Some look like a mix of both. And some look absolutely nothing like either parent.
There isn’t really a way to know. I’d just say it’s An RTM and be done with it. If your going to find a mate for it, get more and give them their own tank

Ok well then

Well what i wanted was the meanest fish i could get! I thought a hybrid would be good but guess thats not the case.
So for the meanest fish . Would it be the dovii or the rtm? Which everone you say i will most Likely keep. I mean i will get a pair! But i would like to keep a Species tank.
Rtm imo. Plenty of personality and they are more beautiful imo. A dovii does not disappoint tho
