Why did you use the hybrid card? What indicators would make you think it is a hybrid?

I'm going to take a video and hopefully be able to host it here. I sincerely appreciate your effort and knowledge!

I got him here locally at a LFS about 30 miles away (Northern Ca.) He was sold as nondescript Lake Victorian but I saw brilliance with this fish. He didn't color up until I had him in my tank for a few days.

I sincerely appreciate everyone's help with the ID.

He's definitely not a thick skin sp.44 as I already have two males. I also have a flameback and although he has similar coloration towards the tail, he's more orange where this fish has the yellow coloring and the dorsal fin coloring is completely different.

Doing a little more Due Diligence on my part, I pretty much concur that I do indeed have a Pundamilia Nyererie. Funny thing is, thought I already had one so I have another mystery fish on my hands. The one I thought was a PN is much darker that the fish displayed on this thread.

The new guy is still pretty young, maybe on 3" at best. I'm going to try to shoot a short video, hopefully with him upset with a tank mate, this guy is really spectacular when provoked.

Again, thanks for the replies and help!

Here's a link to a PN from a vendor:

One of the major wholesalers that carries quality Vics sells some as "Hap. sp. assorted Victorian" so it might be from them thus the labeling in the store.

Hmm that vendor has some interesting names for some of the fish. For example...

Paralabidochromis sp. Rock Kribensis (Uganda(

Uganda Rock Krib (Red Fin Blue Neon)

but the pic is a Platytaeniodus sp. "red tail sheller" http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=2587
