help me identify this peacock bass please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My guess is that they are both monoculus, although the first one is heavily painted. I know monocs are known to have varying amounts of the black "painted" marks on them. The second one appears to have very little painting, quite in contrast to the first. But they still look like monocs to me.

Mono's.

The most common of all the Cichla in the hobby and one of the most colourful.

Yeah its a mono.

Looks like the first link seems to be a C. Monoculus, and the second link appears to be a C. Ocellaris. Either way, they are beautiful. The species should not make you discriminate between the two because they are purtee fshies! :)

I Agree with vince, mono and ocell

The first is def. a mono and the second is an orino!

I am 90% sure that second is a orino. See how the bars are turning into spots and the blue it's developing in the fins. I'm gonna stick with orino!

Everyone on this site seems to think there are only Monoculus and Ocellaris in the world of cichla.... There are dozens of sp. out there... I'll try to put together an ultimate ID chart.
