Help me keep my ALANTIC STINGRAY long live and happy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stingrays do swim up and down the glass, it is normal behaviour for them. But getting gulps of air?, means there is not enough oxygen in the water for the fish. You need more oxygen in the water. More powerheads, circulation are needed i think.

Carl.

Mine will swim up the glass and trap air bubbles in his disk and release them as he slies back down. Are you sure you are not mistaking this behavior for gulping?

Tank, is that your histrix in your avatar? If so can I steal it?

if this ray has death curl its due to it being kept in the wrong water params long term

all rays are sensative to water conditions and trying to keep it in the wrong parameters long term will kill it sooner or later

These are not fishes for a beginner:

this is a good book

Dr. Richard A. Ross – Freshwater stingrays – a complete pet owner manual. Barron’s

This really is not my thing but I have read a lot about them please feel free to bit my head off any of the big boys that have kept these fish for years but you would be so much better off with something along the lines of “Potamotrygon motoro” Or “Potamotrygon histrix” they are a small ray and not to difficult to keep (in ray terms) but you must get a bigger tank or make a pond for them. Also read read read. And listen to the advice of the people on here. It becomes a very expensive hobby when you start killing these fish. But I would recommend the book.

just to makee this more clear for people who dont know...histrix yes stay small but motoros get large males around 18" females 24"..just wanted to make that a little clearer so someone dosnt buy a motoro and expect it to say 12"-14"

Thanks yall! great advice! ........I known the hard way about buying expensive fish like an rtc the total that i spent on RTCs is at, at least 800dollars. the food for them is about double the cost for them.(the one i have now it ate a least 500dollars, not count the present one i have now.)

So that is why i like to have everyone who loves stingrays and have them will, show me your greatest thoughs of keeping a stingray. because it would be no different from me, showing you all how to cure all ailments of a Rtc and keeping them happy.

Also My Alantic Stingray Do not have Death Curl for the last time....(geez..)

And listen to the advice of the people on here
I am, that is why i wanted to everyone to let me know how to keep them safe and happy! I didn't started this thead just so i can keep my post up. It is because, i have began to love stingrays much as my Rtc.(i will spoil my stingray much as i do for my RTC.)

Next question, what do you guys feed your stingrays?

im not sure what to feed this type of ray as i have stayed clear of them

but i think most people feed prawn shrimp krill cockle mucssel blood worm black worm earth worms and even sinking pellets

i have always thought that this type of ray is very hard to get to eat any kind of dead food

to tell the truth i dont know anyone who has kept one alive for more than 1yr and most seam to die after 1-2 months when kept in full fresh water

How big is the tank your RTC is in?

"i have own up to around 15rtc already"

Where are your other 14 RTC?
