I think a single Senegal Birchir would work. Buy it small and keep up with water changes. Very cool fish.

Ya, leaf fish are pretty cool. i think there is an asian leaf fish that gets around 7" (maybe bigger) that might work in a 30.

my african eats fish about 1/2 his size like nothing. HUGE mouth, but i think you'd rather get something that is more active during non-feeding times.

what about a 3-5 inch Elongatus Piranha?? do they have a slow growth rate??
