This is the best pic i can take..i had only put one driftwood inside the tank which i found it during a excavation work. i can't find any coral sand(which i think is the best choice) here in Sarawak,Malaysia..while i been thinking is the beach sand(soft and gold) good?can the beach sand control PH like coral sand did?IMG_1910.JPG what is the best filtration? carnister?

Inside tank of my 2 precious MONO and florida gar:
-Dolphin UV filtration
-filtration pump(suitable in 4 ft tank)
-driftwood

my advice, buy a bigger tank and sump it.. UV is not essential, and i like to stay bare bottom

The tank does look a little small? Gallons and dimensions? Sand is good for most Cichlids and Cichla because they like to dig in it. For filtration the best are sumps and canisters. I prefer wet drys because they allow the bacteria to function much more efficiently than say if the media was submerged. You can make a DIY wet dry filter and overflow for about $20 but the only expensive part is the pump. You can buy a 600 GPH pump for about $60. So you get a higher flow rate than an Fx5 with a lot more space for media. Most expensive canister filters are extremely overrated IMO.
