I am looking for a piranha. Below are the requirements for it, tell me what fits in the guidelines, and would be the best choice.

Tank is a 55 gallon custom bowfront
Good filters, but shouldn't be a messy fish.
peagravel
needs to ba a calm fish
needs to have no fear of people
I want either one or two of them
needs to be commonly available, and not too pricey
needs to be hardy

Thanks.

you could go with redbelly, but only one. i recommend only getting one or getting a group of 5 or more so that one doesn't target another, but you only have room for one, so just get one. two will have too much aggression and one will eventually kill the other.

Sounds good. Those get around 12" don't they?

based on your rather lengthy list of requirements there, I would say the fish you are looking for is not a Piranha....

RBP's are extremely messy, extremely skittish, extremely afraid of people especially when kept as individuals, and you can't keep a pair because they'll kill each other.

get an oscar.

RBP's are not the messy I was reffering to, they are nothoing compared to lots of other fish. I think it should do fine.

But since they are skittish, what do you reccomend? I could use this as a growout tank. Doesn't really matter.

a piranha in a 55g? uh...any of the serras except maybe a mannie or a a big rhom could live in there pretty comfortably. Are the dimensions different form a standard 55g being a bowfront?

Typically you need a tank that is at least 36x18 for life for any of the serras except manuelli or a big rhombeus, but they grow really slow.

It is essentially an elongated cube. Very wide, almost same depth, and nearly same heighth.

Bump...

i'd say you are FINE with a single rbp. let us know what you choose to do and post pics :)

Will do.
