Your female is doing great... last night I put a few tricks on her tank to encourage breeding. I’m going out of town tomorrow and have been discouraging breeding for several weeks before. I hope for her to give up the next batch of eggs by the first week of January, then she'll be ready to come home.

...and be careful with that Red Terror!!! She was my feature in the 'what fish do you regret getting rid of' thread.

For others reading, Terd has a beautiful female JD... and I had a nice looking female Red Terror... he wanted a female RT and I needed a high grade female JD, but only to make me a spawn or two... A little negotiating later and Terd became an official fish pimp when he rented out the JD’s loins for the price of one female RT...

The deals gone perfect... expect I've hung on to the female a little longer than I was supposed to :D but justa lil...

That Red Terror is easily tied for first with Tiny, the big jag, as my favorite fish. She responded very well to the ich treatment. Today was Day 5 and all the spots are completely gone. Her color is even brighter now than before the ich.

And yeah, that's me, terd ferguson- amateur ichtyologist/fish pimp.:grinno: And don't worry about how long you've had Jackie, I'm just glad I can help out with your breeding program (and grateful for the festae). I know she's in good hands.

By the way, Toby, you don't have any UV Sterilizers laying around you're not using do you?:)

The bulb on my UV sterilizer recently blew.

I could tell the difference right away. In my experience they are great.

That sucks your bulb blew… I change mine out the first of every year (which reminds me) but I’ve never had one actually go out on me…

I’m counting pennies right now trying to figure out how to get one more (18~20W) for the new breeding tanks I added as well as pick up that 180 gal on the Charlotte forum.

Jackie’s tank is nice and decorated again, plenty of sand to move around (she didn’t like the bare bottom approach)… I’ve been spoiling her with frozen food… upped her water changes… raised the temp back up to 80... After Christmas I’ll add some salt… should have eggs by New years… :P

That means I’ll have her home by no later than November…

While power is a key factor, contact time is your primary concern. I have loved the turbotwist for this very reason. However, if you are even remotely thinking about putting it inline with that monster 1500gph pump, you will need a huge UV. Also realize that these types of "long contact time" UVs cause serious resistance and will lower the output of your pump. I'm not even entirely sure that Coralife produces a UV with a rated flow of 1500gph... Anyway, straight pass-though UVs are virtually usless and should be avoided as they don't provide enough contact time to destroy much of anything at all.

Thanks for the information. I hadn't planned on using it inline with the main pump. I probably should've specified that. I can run the UV Sterilizer with either of the 2 powerheads or the Magnum H.O.T. 250 canister.:)
