So, since my two retic's just died, I have a 125g ray tank I'm setting up, but don't have any rays to put in it. I am definitely going to buy some more, but I don't know what to go with. The 125g tank is just going to be a temporary/grow out home. I plan on buying/building a 300g or larger pond style tank in the next year or year and a half.

What species of ray would be good for me to try? I know most people would say Motoro, since they're a little hardier, but any other species that I could try that might be better than Retic's?

I'm willing to invest a little more to buy form someone who can vouch for a ray's health and eating habits now, although I don't have a real large budget to go on.

I was thinking of spending around $100-250 initially. If I can get two rays for that price, awesome, if I can get just one, that's ok too.

I've been thinking a lot about Hystrix and Humerosa rays lately. Would either of those be good to start with?

Thanks in advance, everyone.

not to sound rude, but what did the retics die of ?

and for 100-250 not sure you could get one hystrix thought you might for 250 never know. now that they sell them again some people might have decent prices...
motoro would be best bet for a hardy ray tho. might even look at a marble motoro they are sweet
but i hear hystrix are half decent too

Also wondering how they died. Hardly wise a leo is pretty hardy, might cost a bit more though.

LOL, missed the bottom part of his post. Might be better to start off barebottom at first? Just my opinion, seems that way its easier to clean.

CB motoro ray.... pat @ amazon stingrays and look in buy and sell some others have CB motoro rays

I still have my castexi which is hardier than a motoro. He would need bigger than a 125 later on, but you already have plans to go bigger.

i would go with a captive motoro. very hardy, captive bred so u know its healthy, and in ur price range.

its always risky getting wild caught.
