Ok so within probably a couple of months I will be setting up a 210 (84x24x24) for my natives. I already have the tank its in storage until I finish a list of projects on our new house first. Filtration I am planning on 2 fx5's. Current native stock that will go in the 210 once setup is:

1-warmouth 8"
1- Florida gar 10"
2- mixed species sunfish 6"( have traits from lots of different species so I just call them mutts lol

Will be getting one of the grass pickerel from snookn21 as well. Tank will be decorated with lots of hiding spots, driftwood, fake plants, rocks, even floating plants

So is this enough or what else would everyone recommend if I was to add more?

Sounds good! Do the two mutts behave well with the others? Pickerel are sensitive to feisty or hyperactive tankmates.

Yeah the mutts pretty much just hang out together and leave everybody else alone. I'm thinking with that much deco I may be pretty good on stock already but wanted to see what anybody else had to say about it

I do have a couple of natives that if I get my hands on I would want to keep, wanted to see if they would work

Black crappie
Yellow perch

What ya think?

Crappie and Yellow Perch are cool lookiing but not very aggressive, if your sunnies are Greens or Green Hybrids you may end up having some aggression issues.

Ok I will keep that in mind, but like I said before they really seem to leave all the other fish alone. I have had them for almost a year now with no issues.... knock on wood

I tried to ID them when I first got them and I don't remember what I come up with them being a cross of but I think it was like a mix of longear, red spot, and something else that they had traits of. I don't believe thy have any green in them to be honest, but I am no expert at ID'ing sunfish so its more like my opinion

Let me know how the grass pickerel and warmouth get along. I was debating combing the two species in a 125. I was thinking the pickerel would become prey.

Will do! I don't think it will be an issue though just because they will be similar size, but that warmouth has proven me wrong before ( I got him when he was very small and he tried to eat a fish the same size he was... and he succeeded lol)

I kept a pickerel and a warmouth of similar size together in a 65 for several months. They got along fine until a contaminated batch of fatheads killed them both. Your mileage may vary.

dirtbikerider- I think your pickerel will be the limiting factor on tankmates. You do have room for several other fish, especially if you forgo the pickerel and concentrate on sunnies. Also, don't put too much stock in the species-by-species ratings on sunfish aggression; there's enough individual variation to throw a lot of those rules out the window. You just have to try 'em and see how they do.
