Lately, ive been thinking of turning my 180 gallon (6'x2'x2') african cichlid tank into a silver aro tank :naughty: ...Should i or should i not?? hmmm i dunno i can't decide....:nilly:

Ok, before i go and empty the fish from the tank, help me make a stocking list. I need some suggestions as to what fish would be some good tankmates for a silver aro. I would like a few bichers if thats possible. A flowerhorn? a few central americans? gars? cats? well, i dont really know what would go good with an aro so make some suggestions...

First a silver aro needs a larger tank than a 180. Approx 240 for life. Then you beed to select a bit less aggressive fish to go with it. Rays, Knife fish, bichers, and the like go well with silvers though not neccessarily with each other. I have seen other combinations but they seem risky to me. When i added my rays to my silver tank he became a bit more skittish for a while. Be careful and remember to buy a tight fitting lid. GL.

aro + dats + pbass + birchir = awesome

622 good from baby till 20" range...then go get your 300gal.....

had mine with a male green terror, a TSN, a male malawi trout, and a male frontosa...all got along splendidly...

Thats a nice lookin silver :headbang2

Ok heres a list of fish i would be interested in keeping with an aro:

Bichers
Ghost knifefish
Flowerhorn
Dats
Silver dollars
Clown loaches
Rays (maybe, id be afraid of getting stung)
A few of the larger malwian haps
Some sort of catfish
Needlenose gar
Hujeta gars

What fish out of that list would work? What are some other good combinations of fish that will go with an aro?

thanks

thanks fishy...

Don't not buy a ray because you are afraid of being stung. How often do you come into close contact with your fish. The only times I could think of is during tank cleaning (just got to be more careful) or if you hand feed (don't do it it you don't want to risk getting stung) other than that you can enjoy your rays from the safety of the dry side of the tank. JMHO.

how big do arowanas get in captivity? Is a 240 ok if they get to 4 ft??

i've only seen one aro at 4' and he was in a tank MUCH larger thn a 240...it was probably twice that size...
