help me please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your Severum needs out of that 10g ASAP.

You are severely overstocked, or will be in the future, and that is coming from someone that runs high stocking levels on most of my tanks with no issues. You are or will be running your tanks with levels of fish that you will not be capable of maintaining, not to mention incompatability issues.

If you have mollies they will probably outgrow your 20 on their own.
Your golden killies if they're the species I'm thinking of will grow to over 4 inches, will eat smaller fish and can be aggressive with conspecifics.
Yo yo loaches can get over 6 inches and need to be in larger groups because in pairs they will often be aggressive towards each other. They can also be aggressive towards other fish, I have an adult that is a terror to everyone else in the tank.Flying foxes (assuming that's what you mean by fox flyer) become aggressive towards other fish more often than not.

Your first 10g I don't even know where to start, some of the fish you need scientific names on. What kind of pleco do you have? What is a bat cat?

The 2nd 10g - Kissing gouramis (12in in length as adults), Angelfish (6+ in as adults and too tall for such a tank, need 29g min.), again - what kind of pleco?, severum (9+ in. as adult), RTS (5+ inches, becomes aggressive towards other fish)

1g - way too small for any fish IMO except maybe one betta, what kind of loaches are you talking about?

If these are the only tanks you have and don't plan on moving fish to larger ones in the future some of your fish REALLY need to be removed and taken back to the fish store. It doesn't matter what tanks you try to switch fish between, you are overstocked on all of them.

sorry for not enough imformation.

The 1 gal is the quarintine zone for 2 1/4 inch shunk loaches.
All of the plecos are just a regular pleco you find just about anywhere. it is not fancy or anything.
right now my kuhli loaches in my 20 are doing fine
i don't know much about the bat cat. his tank was labeled "bat cat"
the 2nd 10g is my moms. she says that a fish won't outgrow his or her environment. i keep telling her that they will outgrow her tank very soon, but she won't listen. we have 5 living examples of when they do outgrow their environment, but she doesn't listen to that either
i would also like to upgrade my 20 to a 55g soon(read the thread upgrading) but my bro is so stubborn.
none of my fish are super aggressive, but one of my golden killies won't let the other three to the top, but everyone else is dong fine

thanks for the advice

Hey, stubborn brother here, should I really give him the 55G, and put his fish and my mom's 10G's fish in there? I heard Severums get aggressive, but I have never had one. Definately not putting the DP tank into it, though.

I told Paul not to get any more fish, and he didn't listen to me and got 3 more Killies and more cories. I told my mom not to get bigger fish, and she got KGouramis, and a Severum. Can't say that I'M the inexperienced one.

As for overstocking, I hope none of the fish have to go into my 100G, as they will get obliterated by some of my meaner fish.

I don't want to be involved in any family/domestic disputes. ;)

All I can say is some of the fish will either have to go back to the fish store then or unfortunately deal with the consequences of outgrowing their tank or becoming stunted.

Common plecos get up to 3ft in length. Obviously a 55g isn't going to house them permanently.

The severum and angel can probably be housed peacefully in a 55g for quite awhile if not permanently.
The yo yo loaches can reside in there as well.
The kissing gouramis can probably be housed in there at least for awhile and may still outgrow the tank.
You can try both skunk loaches in there if you put a ton of hiding spaces, but they get pretty nasty with other loaches and fish, despite their small size.

The dwarf puffers need to be kept by themselves really, and I don't mean with each other either, I mean seperately.

Groovitudedude, I'd venture to say the RTS would be ok in your tank as an adult, but you're way over on the overstocked side also.
The kissing gouramis wouldn't get ripped apart in your tank, they'd likely tear up your three spots though (I'm assuming that's what you meant by tri-spotted gouramis).

no fights groovitudedude. by the way my moms fish are all young and pretty small. also, my 20g doesn't or isn't over stocked to me.

i will try to get some pics to put on here soon.

My 10g with 100 livingstoni fry isn't overstocked either...

Of course fish get bigger you know...

Thank you for sharing all of your helpful knowledge, ShadowBass (not sarcasm)

BTW, the only pleco I've seen bigger than 3 ft in real life (not on MFK or online) is the 15-year old one at one of my LFSs. There's another one that's 20 years old at another LFS. Other than that, they have a growth rate slower than a snail. Sorry.

And yes, I'm pretty sure that Kissing Gouramis will get destroyed in my tank. Trust me, I've seen what some of my cichlids can do.

You do seem pretty realistic in the long term side. However, by the time that my pleco(s) reach 3 feet, they will probably be either back at the LFS, or I will be at college (or both). I will be about 30 years old then.
