Thick red piranhas in most cases represent females and thinner red Piranhas represent males. In all my piranha breeding experience, this sexing of the piranhas seems to be very accurate. But make sure you are not looking at them after they have fed or else the body will have been distorted. It is a very subtle difference but to a trained eye it is easy to detect.
:)

there not sexualy dimorphic.
the only way to tell is too watch them lay eggs and fertilize them.
the fat thin thing is to do with eggbound females but you cant tell you may have a well fed fat lazy male

The only method I can find written about is dissection and that seems a bit counter productive.

LOL,
Now fry them and eat them , the females taste like fish but the males taste likke chicken. :grinno:

lol
